multiplane

Ronald Smits gives dimension to Finsa’s flat materials through his photography by applying the principles of the multiplane camera, invented by Walt Disney in the 1950s. The photographer suspends his camera above a vertical stack of glass panels, with compositions of works by Envisions’ designers laying on each transparent sheet. Placed atop a coloured paper backdrop, the arrangements at the top of the set cast unexpected shadows on the layers of objects laying beneath it, which appear to be directly behind each other when viewed in the images themselves.
