Roel Deden likes to go ‘from virtual to reality’. Guided by a diverse set of digital tools, the 3D designer dreams up and realises physical experiences which thrive in a digital realm. Virtual reality is the means by which individuals can immerse into and interact with Deden’s domain. Previously, he manipulated the in-process works presented by Envisions, inviting viewers to interact with the incomplete objects in real-life applications. Their placement within a virtual room complete with stepped levels, corners, stairs and ceilings allowed viewers to inspect, lift and throw any of the elements. This time around, the Finsa’s sawmill in Portanxil, Spain is Deden’s playground. A manufacturing wonderland comprised of enormous machinery, the factory enters virtual reality and the Envisions designers’ predominantly wood-based works materialise amid the virtual landscape.
