about the project
Stijlinstituut Amsterdam is an trend analysis agency that focuses on innovation, product design and communication in design, fashion and materials. It is led by Anne Marie Commandeur, an experienced and internationally operating trend analyst, educator and lecturer, who keeps in close connection with the young talents of today.
For Issue 121 of Textile View Magazine, Stijlinstituut was to do a trendreport on AI (artificial intelligence) in the context of textiles, stating that algorithms not only analyse our behaviour but also shape it. Stijlinstituut approached Sanne Schuurman of Envisions to be responsible for the art direction and putting together a team to work out the visual execution of this trendreport. Envisionaires Adrianus Kundert, Aukje Fleur Janssen, Elvis Wesley and Ronald Smits worked on this project and formed a trend series split in nine sections for Autumn/Winter ’19-’20. Each section presents the textiles in both a material execution and an abstract character, showing the wearability of each textile trend. Opposed to often static presentations of textile in magazines, this series aimed at illustrating the dynamism of textiles, showing bold movements and textural dimensionality as “this dynamic is what fashion is about today. By enabling people to continually reinvent themselves, we are sustaining diversity and creativity or each and every look.”
